Back back -- guy now. Now are 24/7. Coverage continues with no Red Sox road to redemption pregame show presented by Anderson window. And so I -- like no way that window who -- -- These these Sports Radio WP. I'm like soccer rob Bradford where you -- it will be along here as well we're Fenway Park and our center field studios right on lands down street. Gonna stop by and say hi we will be here enough always look forward to it. Big game tonight obviously game six and I mean there's no doubt once you get to this point dull playoff games are big with the Red Sox. With their first opportunity to clinch a spot in the World Series defeat Saint Louis they get there -- with a huge when my -- my first time since 1918. They've had a home 32 game. That's what reflects notes. That it's like to note never okay so must be true aren't. And the first time since nineteen different different teams six up 32 will be played at home and just try to make a point. It's as you said it was a game if there's a big can it -- and almost never happens this way -- exactly now obviously it's being given that goes without saying. I think it's even bigger than your general games six for the Red Sox and the game you know obviously for Detroit. Backs against the wall. Do or die they know all the cliches. Are for Detroit to -- for the Red Sox. It's pretty damn close to be in the same thing Justin Verlander waiting in game seven. -- what you want any part of seen him a second time in this series beat him once got the home run from Napoli were able to get though otherworldly performance from John Lackey but I've said right from the beginning win this series in six or lose that seven -- I don't see how they win. Samuel would also lose date the big top. Our failure to do three more hours of -- stock now not hours were also on the look at it this far and it was good show. At this. I like the act -- The Michael biased towards our covenant and the football -- Topic top aside certain. Crew aside what is ahead of the Charles and you'd -- Ken Charles I -- to be and then I don't know why Mike in my high school I wasn't lying of course I tried crew for one up for one season it wasn't the most difficult sport in the country I could not do it I there was no chance I couldn't get before -- couldn't grip the or properly. I was out in the freezing cold on a river there was nothing about it so who by the way jumped other card at 255. Amid jump back and right now they're thinking that WEI is the head of the Charles place to be okay but that side. Didn't we win said this the other day which wise this game means more to watch but it means to the Red Sox. Meeting game five. For what you just -- I agree. That they could not lose the last game because you had scherzer and verbally and you're gonna have to be both of them. Absolutely and you have so little room for error to the Red Sox -- still think that's the case now. If you asked me which is the more beatable pitcher. Scherzer or Verlander for some inexplicable reason I think it serves. I think you're -- I do I do not that shows how good he won what twenty some games this year he was very good the first time they faced each other but. He's I know it's not like to say but he's Max Scherzer but he's not sure the other guy -- you're not you're not here with Orlando and are even with him what. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And it's unfair to just go on his name being Max Scherzer instead of what you can also on the fact that he's gonna win the Cy Young our right is gonna win the side. Good players good pitcher he dominated the last time they play they were able to beat him. The time before that but the other guy is Justin Verlander the other guy is. For my money still one of the three best pitchers in baseball over time and maybe -- maybe sure just had a great season. But I don't want any part any part at all you know who is also a guy -- the best to make the real who's been the best of baseball for the last month and company and Verlander. Absolutely been Verlander can you -- the Red Sox hitters and they'll tell you that. But -- didn't even have his good stuff the other night. It was what we -- -- -- -- And that should scare you. Actors as he used just the deep big game pitcher and he got you do not wanna go against. I mean other than Clayton Kershaw out of this thing just came in Clayton Kershaw are really those two guys you know on a face any part of them. And Kershaw just get shelled last night complete shock coming to everybody. So the winner of this series will play Saint Louis -- a bit more. About the Cardinals and some of the random guys they have on their team that nobody even knows -- -- Michael walker go and into the playoffs. But we're not a broccoli around holiday -- right now but I you virtual unknown I think to. To casual baseball fans Joseph Kelly and in the group that they have throwing for them even even -- leader of their pitching staff. Adam Wainwright nineteen game winner some of the best stats in baseball never ever ever considered one of the best in baseball you think of the -- the elite group you're put Adam Wainwright and. I'm very hesitant to talk about the Cardinals going to be like I know we gotta fill time well I -- that I don't wanna spend all day on the might just I don't very hesitant start about the -- is -- because no matter what happens you're still gonna have at least. Two and a half days to -- three quarters to -- to talk about them and this could be a lot to talk about for all the reasons you just said. That nobody knows half the team -- public or else if you if you're from around absolutely but I do want -- get to this real quick which is the Red Sox lineup which -- came out. That we knew who were who was going to be. But we did not know the exact source I will give it to you right now Jacoby l.'s very Shane Victorino who will not. Be hitting from the left side he said he could get Babe Ruth and I point out to him the Babe Ruth of lefty so he probably would do that anyway. He will not be hitting from the left side the rest of the series that's it was just a one shot deal. He he he liked how he had gone against Anibal Sanchez before when he was with the Miami. He what he had been working on it but once he started doing so this is isn't gonna work out. So Ellsbury Victor -- Pedroia they would that he probably curse that everybody in the stands in Detroit instead taking on a much frustration did you exactly exactly. Post a good start over at third over to the cup it. -- start over five times both very Victorino Pedroia Ortiz Napoli. Saltalamacchia. Jonny Gomes in left Stephen -- Who'll talk about a resort -- -- -- I'm sure we're also talk about Clay Buchholz was pitching the nothing really surprised me was the first thing that strikes you. Is -- Saltalamacchia he's moved up a little bit but that makes perfect sense considering he's a lefty. While the other -- things a little bit funny to begin with right I mean it they've won the games or he's played they've lost the games where he hasn't. I don't know that he's been the reason behind any of those wins or losses Daniel -- of the of the same way it. It it seems odd because Nava had such great numbers all -- the top five in the lead on base percentage I mean he was. They are guy in a right in the lineup against left handers -- Jonny Gomes. Is a platoon guy and and that's what he's supposed to be who struck out three times against you're right about exactly like he had great at bats. So so this is John Farrell just saying and look at the -- thing in a moment but this is -- just saying screw it we win when he's in there we lose when he's not because there's no other earthly reason he's not like a good hitter against against -- I know we had a hitter -- against them back when they played in July but it -- not a good hitter. Against scherzer he's not a good hitter against righty is -- is not actually has the a lot of pitches and hit the ball decently well in the games he's been in that. And yet the decision is to stay with -- go. It is baffling in the sense that you just don't see a lot of times where you'd just say. This guy you have a better feeling about when he's in the line -- who -- I think they're gonna come out and say that but they feel like there's going to be one or two instances within a game. -- Jonny Gomes does something to helps you win. And yes you can point to the fact every time he started this post season the Red Sox have won. Well it's adding up now and that's the way that they feel and is a slight Andino -- did not let that what the Tigers have a no hitter for it wasn't for Daytona. If a good player. Right now it -- feel good when Johnny go to the bank. We're back to the work field 'cause it's not about not nothing weird. -- well this isn't I mean I don't think of John Ferrell has been a touch and feel manager I don't think -- has been a gut instinct guy he's somebody who understands all of the reams of information that is given to him he takes a lot of care and how we fills -- the lineup every -- not just thrown against the wall to see what sticks. And yet he he sits here and play is Johnny -- not necessarily have a problem -- it. It's hard to overlook the evidence up when he's been in there they want when he hasn't been in there they've lost. He does bring some other things to the table great base running the defense has been good through a guy out at home plate even though big never should've been running to begin with. I mean there's a lot so I have to make -- right there there's a lot of positives that that -- brings to the table. And so I could see why he would be in there and yet dropped down. There's something about Saltalamacchia hitting six that doesn't exactly I don't know whose confidence the way he's gone so far in the series but. You know what everybody's kind of come badly in the series I mean who who who would you rather have in their batting after Napoli that you would feel so much better about all arts. Well I think it what you need in their eyes that they need as many lefties up top as possible because. 165165. That's what right he's -- hitting against scherzer. And so. You you move up Saltalamacchia now. That doesn't mean you move up drew pass domes because threw it to struggle so much he's in the lineup we know why he's in the lineup we heard yesterday. And but still that's not gonna get him past the eight spot. Why is in the lineup amid let's dig into this and I know it's victory here that I know we did but 617779. 79837. Mike -- and rob Bradford with the guys and to allow the pregame show starts three hours from now -- -- will join us at 6 o'clock once he finishes his TV duties hustle bring -- -- to this conversation about two hours but. Stephen Drew is in the lineup. John Farrell says yesterday it's for defense he trusted -- knows he's a good player he trusts them up the middle we see the nice play that he made turning double playoff about the row from Jon Lester just -- to make that play. I don't know maybe does maybe doesn't but the moved here is for defense now who has pointed out yesterday by a caller. That if defense is what is so important to him up the middle. Then why was drew playing at the time of over Jose Iglesias why wasn't -- -- he has given the of their free reign at shortstop if defense was the ultimate import. -- that because it was through a bad defender. Glad theoretically season which is a better defender but in the middle of the that is Bogart's about -- Nobody's also a righty hitter and he's a worse defender than -- but that's my point is that is that the other that Iglesias is a better fielder tour group I think and I don't even know what you just that is true. You're telling us it's true and and and we've been fit the line that it's true Bogut to the miscues drew blood and I don't know the natural. Well I think they have seen him in the minor league we we've seen him we've seen him a -- -- ice I'd have to see him make a mistake want to -- one other thing that impresses me are we got duly noted. If you said for the right yes yes well look at things that we. Impressed me the most about -- is how he handles himself defensively he's got no position in third base and he had been do you various movies very confident good for him. Now. It's a good point you bring up about ugly -- group that's the regular season that's over the course of a long haul -- -- they thought they drew with command and sure enough he did hit. The difference here is that true in the playoffs they feel like they need him and the case in point. Well why do you feel this way the other day the Lester throw. The lesser star that the big plate and I can't prove that Bogart's would have made the play at the point guard yes but my guess is that Bogut doesn't make out. Don't look out for there I'm just sort of being argumentative because I happen to agree with the way he's done this. I would also leave drew and at shortstop and I would have put Overton at third base as well I have no problems to what John -- stunned but. It does bring me back to something that certain you're kidded me throughout this whole season especially well I thought they waited too long to bring Bogart's up. I don't know what took so long once they finally did get a -- I thought that there were more opportunities to put him in two games to see what it looks like any late game situation. Pinch hitting to see what he looks like playing shortstop to see whether or not bad defense plays because to sit there they all drew was a better defender are just no way. Well let's think let's see what happens when they can play three or four games in a row which shortstop that when I've seen him play he's looked good in the field yet. A big dispute real Mike the fact is is debate it's not like they haven't seen soaked in a Bogart's played they've seen him play more than anybody. They also has we've seen Stephen -- played because he's right in front of our fate -- play at the Major League level let's not he does I don't I don't think I do think they missed opportunities to play him well rated as well I think they get caught a little bit which was will middle Brooks and Stephen Drew were playing just well enough we'll -- and especially with middle -- he would beat you starting to find his rhythm. Is trying to find his you know. -- at the plate yeah. Just well enough. So you want to get will middle -- going into the playoffs. That's why you don't play Bogut because you feel -- Brooks is gonna do something and even the playoffs he'd done some things here and there. But that's why they didn't play Bogut and I agree you get to this point now. Didn't knock it in not. Play easier to -- -- if that talented guy who has shown that the big stage doesn't affect -- 61777979837. Hear from you guys this afternoon driving around if you're at the head of the Charles regatta. Go right down the Charles Ferguson's Cambridge well you know what we're pretty quick as I now know this must mean you say yeah I'm very familiar with the head of the -- yet because I went to BB NN young that doesn't mean that you're breaking down the -- gallery I don't know how to do any of them are right now. I know how the head of the Charles where I don't know how I was doing one year private school can. I know by the head of the Charles marks and it has nothing nobody is paying attention to anybody route right. So what what was what was -- see you there well the head of the Charles that's going over the -- -- boathouse to get like a hot apple cider and -- people you haven't seen -- -- but I think with Italian tired even if pineapple united back code for -- it's literally are you plus most years it's so crappy out this weekend. That you go out for maybe a minute or -- you realize that -- freezing in miserable interrogate your car and go home focus this year it actually happens to be beautiful does -- basically created a terrible terrible cliche of a pitcher -- me what can I -- a lot of -- and I think every human -- -- -- -- the -- a forty you to plot it -- at brown paper bag or something off I mean maybe in my youth may not. You're talking awhile course now we come -- for the afford it -- over the little. There's a little spot under the -- street bridge that we may be used to go across the street to -- -- yeah. -- feel that David and the trials. Isn't played with forties and -- and probably prevent and depends a lot of different people out there at 6177797937. -- little oh we and and go hang out by the Charles River adjacent in the car hi Jason. How we go guys we just. I brought into you anticipate that Mike Napoli lead back next year and -- Brooks Michael to first base but what what planet what do you think you all get about that. While they both -- purse wise I do think that they're gonna offer right now if you're asking me I think they're gonna offer Napoli qualifying offer but. It's a tough one it's tough when most people think he's still gonna get a two or three year deal besides -- but despite his hip ailment. But they're gonna offer on the call by an -- I think that they will offer maybe a two year deal. I don't know if that's enough to get it done because of the hardest thing to find in baseball we -- a time and time again is a guy who can hit with power and especially guy who works the count like he does. But he went into his sexual -- this year. Which if physical stuff aside such rights. -- -- -- -- -- given the rest of the deal you originally offered him -- don't think that's -- that would not what you -- -- to do -- -- we originally offered -- what 339 right and ultimately had to drop it to what turned out to be one and thirteen or so why not give -- -- -- would again be front and I wouldn't have a problem with that and here's a reason why. You'll have -- anyone coming up right says well this guy you don't block this guy. And he's shown enough -- -- -- are you know despite the holes in his swing despite the right to -- goes into. He's a guy that you wanted to team now they don't commit to a long term you're not looking for 45 year deal will be 32 with the -- the this month of October 31. So you don't looking for Napoli long term is your first baseman but. For two more years while you go out and look for the guy that ultimately can be in that spot. I think that makes sense but. Brought you and I both know the goal here long term house to be what are you gonna do to replace David Ortiz maybe this year maybe it's picture maybe it's in three years. But eventually you need some they don't just mean at DH I mean that number three and four spot in the order who was going to be your power bat. Who hits for average and power in works counts one of those truly elite hitters like David Ortiz like the Tigers have with Miguel Cabrera. Like like all the teams left half. Right like Saint Louis has of their combination of Beltran and and -- holiday like cat like the Dodgers have in the middle of their order if you don't have a guy like that's your problem. Lee nice play by the way -- most of those guys most of those guys -- mentioned aren't even doing what David Ortiz right exactly update David Ortiz is doing some thing. That is it's so hard to find -- so I don't know if you gonna find that guy to replace them. But this go back to an applicant now now -- in the guy's gonna replace a meter. He's part of the peace what are you gonna do with through qualifying offer even offer one him or do you wanna bring him back at ball what do you do it middle Brooks what do you do with Bogart's. It's a fascinating conversation about it you seem a little bit more -- -- throughout the year -- and -- maybe be easier to make that choice maybe I know -- little bit more about whether or not he was ready to take over the reins. At shortstop probably not what I would probably do though is I would bring back -- for one more year and and today. Maybe you're going to be the shortstop a whole year maybe not it's going to be a three way competition between you and middle Brooks and Bogart's for two spots and whoever is hitting. That's is what you -- well you better be willing to trade you better -- have a pretty good field hours trade market because -- if he doesn't get beat up you are paying got fourteen million dollars or. What -- -- for one year it's one year fourteen million -- one year I'm not talking about committing to a long term if he turns -- distinct and I end -- only getting six million worth of value to the Red -- of -- eight million dollars but wouldn't bother me -- -- could have 6177797937. -- is in the lineup he is hitting ninth today just fell behind Stephen Drew who bats -- is that how you would like to -- like Jonny -- in there instead -- Daniel -- and just how important is this game if they win -- -- any shot they can come back tomorrow -- Justin -- Mike -- rob Bradford -- -- here Fenway Park and WE. American spirit and think about it here you know obviously I do. -- could finish of every hit second I. Or reflections on Arnold wants I don't warfare and so. He does good this year -- it could be my last I don't want figure for granted. So I think that went through my head more than. You know hey I need to play well so I get a contract is. So I feel like that's gonna happen you know regardless. I was Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Joining -- Michael hall yesterday Mike's not here along with rob Bradford special Saturday addition get ready for game six tonight in. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Just wondering a little bit grades one to carry you so -- when he got becoming a regular thing I like like I very much enjoy that interview and he does a lot of personality brought us inside the David Ortiz is home what it's like to. To hang -- with what poverty I actually listen to that part of it before another hour I lol I mean I'm fascinated by what David Ortiz is -- look like. How it's decorated does he have a personal decorator does that make the choices themselves. You just tell you they're sure that David Ortiz walked out in game three were OK I. View I nobody in the world can pull off this year -- I don't know if you saw he was three and in series in Detroit on incident it was -- had a enormous kind of I don't foresee that tiger that would be disrespectful. To the tiger go to it -- A deceive ourselves sort Campbell on a frying pan -- -- polyester material but with the leather sleeves and that top it all off. Delivers the other person leaves. -- -- So that kept that baby could have been a tank top at a moment's notice it was convertible and that's too bad favorite teams always get Ortiz can pull that off -- walked in right now especially with that -- -- walking out -- those guys and I can even I can walk. Without light did they crush me for coming in with a shirt tied at some dialogue you know I'm kind of in between what are you are you doing -- in the latter. You have that -- you didn't exactly get them. I'm good Bolivia I can make this like it may tell you though I don't know I didn't make catfish salad giant spaghetti sauce and -- idealized 6177797937. Luke. Is in his car I look. You know what up guys that Luke. -- -- -- it -- so much herbal wrap it up and right Clay Buchholz could do for a good gate and went -- sit on top the big game. He's by -- direct type pitcher catcher might be one of ineptitude and deer meat on -- game. -- what about the guys go for deterrent. But. Who really go it is weird. -- that Clay Buchholz policies we can look at the post season number URE over six. But he seemingly has just hit roadblocks in each of these two games. He's been he's had stretches where he's been really get it for about three innings and then he gets his -- what's the last one was much worse. Feel you know -- -- don't. Not pitching all that well I'm in the kind of results the result that's correct in that what I don't even entirely by that I thought you're writing in in game in the game he pitched against Detroit maybe. The game he pitched against Tampa I don't know -- -- -- -- I don't think he was all that I never felt comfortable with him in that game I never felt like he got himself into a good rhythm he did get himself out of trouble. Once or twice before giving up the huge home run to to Longoria. But I never felt comfortable with him -- that -- a good run there about three -- how -- that's not enough to as a result been up -- all know that if he he never struck me is the same guy that we -- dominate throughout this regular season and I always said the reason that I trusted Jon -- with as that game one starter over Buchholz. Was just the eighth the consistency and be. The ability to go deeper into games I mean it when I watched Buchholz -- with your -- going to expect tonight. I expect him to be better than he was the last two times to pit so I expect a good version but Clay Buchholz spot. -- -- -- go more than five innings I don't know 55 and third I'll be very surprised if he's still pitching in the seventh inning tonight. To me to be the thing that that was alarming not alarming but no the red -- much more than in Tampa game the last game. Was when things start going bad for him that inning he starts slowing down to a crawl up and we know with Clay Buchholz that's what this -- he's not feeling good about what's going on. So that that is that was not. 6077797937. Marquee purple one's open for you guys. Throughout the afternoon. I hope that doesn't happen tonight I hope he does not slow things down to a crawl and it's not like I don't worry we -- we -- not just it it's not like. He got to worry about the Detroit running game but it's one thing when you're worried that there's a guy on base and he's taking -- up a lot of your attention what I mean this team can't Ron. It's one of the great advantages the Red Sox have over them is that they're more athletic Detroit's softball team -- right totally as well built team they're not just a softball team that the softball team that's got a few of those guys on and at the end of the bench real like. I hope this guy doesn't have to come up again -- like it's cool what we got our big -- the bat third fourth fifth whatever they want guys in a slump fine. But. -- any play in those coed softball leagues were like every four he Saturday at the girl when the girls like -- every four batters has to be a girl and you're like OK to make sure we find the girl that can hit a little bit -- -- have that battle. We've got guys in their team that would ever heard of but it -- Brayan Peña came into the game the other day 350 pound five foot five catcher did anybody really know much about him yes you did your baseball writer but I think that the Red Sox Nation in general out there -- I don't yeah. Brayan Pena out and watch. Everywhere and -- its hide the aero of the Tigers baseball when they had to Brian would be are a one way and on a bright and Hillary out bright and you didn't even know that you -- it out and and I don't -- it gives a trick you know were waiting for Alex to point out such a fact I was just trying to prop up Alex once again. By the way. Alex what a story he wrote today and I know you didn't read it not though but by you -- okay. -- the Red Sox base right now looks right streets all these guys had together tonight -- with the best Red Sox base running story and general manager -- -- -- went on with the ad Brad vote no longer interest just -- it's Mike Saturday to clock from a good morning from the airport now that. Ever since you were so ever since you -- -- -- last week when we did this -- passing game and and I did you aside -- Bradford I've I've on -- you know what does that have to do -- -- Twitter attack the -- nothing to do matured -- anyway I could follow that. Before right so I'll say that to Alex wrote the preeminent. Base running -- like beat -- -- go read it WEEI dot com but I would bring some tricky -- really a really good story on Detroit's base running we really short three or four words and -- be done you guys -- need to stay up until 5 in the morning you -- Alex worked too -- I -- -- at the airport he's like drag -- looks like he's half -- just right about -- base -- you write for three -- don't dare to dream my -- -- dream. I some tricky factor talk about Clay Buchholz about being good -- that. The first four innings not MLB in -- such a credit them they run Peter Gammons Daly is great site. First four innings in the playoffs so far hitters are hitting 207 against -- -- it. I was a little bit of that there's something more -- are you wanna find out in the fifth and sixth inning that I would like to know what goes on -- but I think that speaks in my point. They've been pretty good he's been pretty good many of these these walls after that -- here you -- I did I know you wanted to stack. The fifth in the sixth inning on. 450 yeah I think that's pretty good and with the -- but there after the fourth and. Comment on player right I've heard them quoted when he talked a bit of a better pitcher are actually was. Pitching to contact mark throwing two seamer -- a righty getting a lot of ground balls short and third it's -- it's -- low pitch count deep in the game decision who. Bright and I elected the player to start it's been a return of but left circle -- of the clay who. -- -- can read them expert average between pitches over analyzing every edge and pitchers. Every edge for slowing him. And I feel like it's been -- after that and I hearing a quote about what you learned from lack brought more purple strike may. Sounds like it's going to be more the Saints tonight and I'm concerned. Well is good point because when he turned his career around. One of the things that every one point it was that all of sudden you strong ground balls he was -- great pitch counts he wasn't worried about strikeouts. But I think Clay Buchholz is figure out what Clay Buchholz it is right now. And you go to these two playoff games I do you think it's a byproduct somewhat of you know you can't expect this guy was was good pick up -- left stop. Yeah there was encouraging signs I think has been encouraging signs in the playoffs but with the but the biggest encouraging -- to get the point where you say. That's the guy won't you left off live. In early June. That's when you get past the fourth the fourth inning that's when you start turning those stats are -- and that's again that's the concern and I hope that there's a short hook for him tonight I I can't imagine given that Justin Verlander is waiting for them in game seven. That there is going to be a why did. But even wide berth if given her for Clay Buchholz and I couldn't get music -- -- -- -- like just had that -- but. Even if it's hot ticket that allowed the the -- way. You say I hope there's a quick court form is much conversation out the window the way the John Farrell's manager Wally I mean he's had a very quick hook for everybody but. Other than peavy the other nine even then he pulled them fairly early in that you know to get much of a choice -- -- I. I'm not there's no second guessing a Ferrell I'm not saying always believe in everybody in so long I hope we didn't do that -- Buchholz but. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- About what John Ferrell has done in the playoffs I hated the fact that he didn't pinch hit. For for Stephen Drew in the third game in Tampa -- I didn't love the equipment but just that one game I didn't love the way -- handled a few things since then and other than that. I think he's done a fantastic job. Handling this team to the playoffs. Guiding them from from this whole road to redemption thing where they were last year to where they are today. Are creating the guy has Iraq allowing them to win that and then -- and then so far this strategy in the playoffs I think it's been good short of one game. Now Jim Leland has announced they line -- change sort of the only one is that Alex Avila will play tonight so you worried that his knee was -- batter that he was actually can cost he will be back in there tonight -- -- will not be -- Victor Martinez will not be catching nor will Brayan Pena who is gigantic a little I can't believe they had a play on the required him to cover third. There's no way that was -- -- talked about though nobody is so fat you're gonna -- -- -- a sprint down to third -- why wouldn't you have the shortstop cover third -- for me that was a fascinating part was that the whole famous fast wobble at the shortstop cover third because news coverage sack while with the commissioner and major news covering -- I I know they give why. Why would you do it that way you're you're asking a humongous. Fat -- to run from senator to third base and quickly make an athletic -- At third base why. Because you have a guy at first you're gonna have the first baseman charged you have the second baseman go cover for why -- have the first baseman charge. Because that's typically what you doing a bunt bobbled the third day we don't have. Do you know how do we need war eagle we need one of your corner infielders to charge him in Albuquerque falls off. To the first base side prince gonna stay -- home elect Cabrera charge shortstop goes to third -- second baseman goes to second in the you don't have to but that's what they did I guess my point did you think it's better to have. A gigantic fat catcher running to third base and having to make and not letting you play you traded Jose Iglesias. Yes that's right and then that -- I don't know if you do but that's the -- play well so have I didn't know so wanna have the will play -- what's aside for the we'll play I don't know don't -- would we want if you take out of that will hold -- big proponent of the real players what you're saying but I probably not in general. But when you're Brayan Pena behind the plate. Who's it literally this big fat you Obama get into this next excellent seventh at 79793. Every play every calls plus the we'll play in depth salt and Bradford on WEEI. Plus she's a pretty good wondered. His double single and struck down he turns the ball dropped to down to third Cabrera is up booty is one play first base. He gets it and now racing in a third of metal -- football buddy. First baseman in -- CP -- -- -- had a race down there to cover the bag the throw was late. And how -- will metal woods going first to third on a bunt that was fielded by the third baseman. And the umpire almost guided the way rob Drake -- left. -- umpires certainly interfered on that play the tag released the possibility of attack was blocked. Athletic at third base umpire rob Drake. Finally you would have either way but -- club regularly. He's really -- really laying down. And Pena turns around -- Glover out and hit straight -- I don't think you imagine -- Pena was gonna go 270 degrees around to make a tactic that only needed to do -- turn ninety degrees do with lack of the funny thing was bizarre and thought he hit -- about it tag umpire and there's nothing about Brayan Peña that impressed me and -- you slowed down and bring it back. Guy who's really short ones that anyway. Here's a few things on that play first of all if it's if if if if infielders charging and supposed to be charge NYC the one who takes the throw first better. The second baseman is not the one who's covering the bag now maybe just a run behind center but it was not a well executed play in general -- the first baseman -- charging. Tonight he according to the to the play by play call there the throws -- fielder and infielder throws across the third and I'm pretty sure that's what happened or maybe he was charging in backtrack right what went on a third with a once it was. Put down third base my point here is the wheel -- the wheel to wheel -- of -- to -- -- football will play I understand some of the difficulties with it why you don't wanna use it all the time. But in this situation. With your catcher being as big as he has one look at fact -- it of course I can move. He you'd trust the guy that size to he's not a big athletic guy is a pretty good trust him to run down the third base. And and then make my god running sliding tag by the it -- the pitcher on the play the pitcher did apparently nothing here's what I -- and the pitcher -- the first base side and the third baseman cover the third base side or do it the other way. But in this case it's a righty pitchers so he's fallen off that outfit to. Agreed with the pitcher should be doing is backing up third right and and when you see the catchers not to make it there because as you said he's a little portly. Then you -- you able to cover the base at the pitcher also has the cover some amount of some amount of for the -- today again -- Boston to a fifth to meet the passing play even though. Nobody scored -- got nothing came of it right both capacity play because your pinch running middle Brooks who is not as fast -- the reason they do that. They don't want to they don't number one they don't want to burn the position. They want they don't want to burn a player by using Barry. -- They also feel more confident with -- middle Brooks executing something like that because as Gary -- Arsene has said back in August 1 of the things that Bogart's hasn't been able to do. Which is work on his base running he went to the WBZ. During spring training when they work. Odd that exact any data base running mistake I think yeah -- -- as well it didn't get a good read off the bat and ended up making a base running mistake didn't cost them -- so you feel better about middle Brooks being that spot the reason that it's not Barry. It because again and they don't want burn position they'll also according to them. Want to get him -- wanted to get him feeling good about going is a defense for plays -- -- -- get a feeling good about us now now what -- the -- -- -- -- warmup could -- run in the total -- this -- -- a lot of -- this will -- I guess we got those dugout have gigantic heaters and there's cold everywhere but the dog fighting you know it's like you can't do the Jamie Lee Curtis -- perfect in a -- Olympics if it's I really dated myself about -- -- -- -- Big Apple but I think going to be the guy with the info on this and couldn't really which which -- first I don't know the Jane Fonda and then that might even til that's filled that if I don't still true lies that was debut return assists no it was not so what about. Trading play certain places on his finger from Sweden. -- True lies find a minute before that using difference we do -- just one more thing about them into the after the -- yes. After the play they intentionally walked Ellsbury. So dumb us down they know since it was. Believe hopefully -- it was like he didn't realize who Jacoby Ellsbury was so we walked there was like a -- -- just -- a fast guy in the league what made up with him what -- even worse the rest of the difference you know it even worse it let I want to second primary basically admitting to. We you know what we do we're gonna do for you this what really different. We put another runner -- going to for no reason yeah I mean I guess you want the righty lefty combination wanna walk Ellsbury because you wanna get the Victor real fine but then you Papelbon pitch around him -- the you know don't just want -- it was a very strange move thank you wilders has not been perfect. That's for sure horse excellent 77797937. Go to -- wall in April I want. Yeah you're going to have brought -- watch our government religion Brad did. So -- all believe me I've heard of that I took it all kinds of free stuff and Bradford doesn't work I think it's named after one Iran's insistence. And I didn't want to kick and I did a lot of -- been reported on the farm. -- Yet but I honestly that there -- -- I don't believe -- I believe that's what you do what he is really drastic and I really don't really freak. Or not -- Look at a lot policy and hug and a Cuba. More on -- -- Really that bad -- -- each quarter if you've been. One of the best outfielders and the American League yeah he's been with the team in spring training. Everybody here I am sure he don't get me wrong but -- Littlest -- on the bench fourth outfielder coming in response to the team. Obama is there and there are some key here he's also. Know he had a lot. He started -- I don't think he gets the respect. I'd like to -- -- -- he against the righty. I mean I wrote it because -- the quiet kid -- -- down you know he ended up. -- the -- together you -- about -- -- quo right now I'm I might disagree with you. But please don't still gimme my -- corn with that I I don't know what it is now up. But did not play to finish the couple sentences abide by the end of the since then -- get the good they're able to do sugar butter corn you're gonna end up with the stuff that like the -- in the -- things giving tables looked like red and -- my decision really more deck and I say you're a double to -- to say you're absolutely right when you actually -- for -- Yeah I am telling you get a couple so quickly forgotten at all and what would argue it -- really yet. That's better than the sugar and butter all of when your ball flight I'm sure that that's when it comes from a terrible plot that don't look wearing the white collar and actually it's -- pretty. Is it true like eating -- is like eating a candy bar some sugar and it. I'm delighted they've been developed and all but he is not -- -- its that traditional -- What we used twenty years ago. You were not seeded like alcohol and while I think -- -- -- so it all -- it sweeter and sweeter. Probably this -- the best article on cute and we. How many years and. Like everything everything's coming together this October -- while it's gonna grab a call from -- program director to fire Hendry for having no longer look I'm not stay out of the three -- that led up to this show you have nothing to worry this is irrelevant if I John Farrell is going to is going to be is gonna watch -- with the media and fifteen minutes by pat and -- five John -- meets with the media gets and his thoughts on today.
