Nateasa (Rocky Hill, CT) has been living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer for the last 6 years. Shortly after she gave birth to her son Miles, Nateasa started experiencing abnormal chest pains. Subsequent x-rays revealed spots on her liver and some 4 months later, Nateasa was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. The cancer, which originated in her left breast, has spread to her lymph nodes, liver, spine and now to her brain. She was initially treated closer to home in Hartford but her surgeon heard about a clinical trial at Dana-Farber for women with her type of metastatic breast cancer and in January she began receiving care at Dana-Farber. Despite battling a very difficult illness, Nateasa is doing well and stays very positive. She is continuing to work on her health, so she can see her son, a young Red Sox fan, grow up. Nateasa will be living with breast cancer for rest of her life and of course, is hoping for a cure. Dr. Wendy Chen has done extensive research on the role that diet can play in preventing breast cancer. She is currently leading one of the largest clinical trials at Dana-Farber to test whether daily aspirin could be used to help women prevent breast cancer recurrence.
